Computer Security - Page 3 Empty Make A Text File In Cmd Prompt

Post  CyrusKnyghtbane Fri Apr 16, 2010 3:03 pm

To append the resulsts of a cmd to a text file, simple type in...

cmd > nameoftext.txt

This will put the results of your cmd into that text file instead of displaying it in the cmd prompt box.

Computer Security - Page 3 Empty Static IP Address

Post  CyrusKnyghtbane Fri Apr 16, 2010 3:05 pm

You can configure your machine to have a static IP address instead of one given to you by the router's DHCP. You just have to open your NIC, go to properties, double click TCP/IP v4. And then set it up.

YOU MUST REMAIN IN THE SAME SUBNET AS YOUR ROUTER OR ELSE IT WON'T TALK TO YOU!

Computer Security - Page 3 Empty Subnets and Subnetting

Post  CyrusKnyghtbane Fri Apr 16, 2010 3:06 pm

Subnets are tricky to explain. I didn't get them at first either. But all in all... It shows the computer the "Network to host" ratio of your network.

Most networks run on a Class C subnet. Which is 255.255.255.0

Class A is 255.0.0.0
Class B, you guessed it. 255.255.0.0

But these are "Classful" subnet masks. You can break down even further to give yourself less hosts and more networks... Or less networks and more hosts with Supernetting.

But whatever you do, any machines that you want to talk to each other HAVE TO BE ON THE SAME NETWORK.

Changing your SUBNET MASK WILL CHANGE YOUR NETWORK!

For best results, stick with a Classful Class C subnet mask, and use the IP Address scheme of 192.168.1.x or 192.168.0.x

Deviation from what you already have will result in network conectivity loss.
